Cookies and Castles
Every year my family gets together to make super cute gingerbread men and gingerbread houses at Scottish Rite Hospital's annual Cookies and Castles and tell Santa our biggest Christmas wishes. Its one of my favorite traditions! With tables full of buckets and buckets of candy, my mega sweet tooth crazed family was in heaven. We filled up our baskets with our favorite goodies and made our way back to our table to get decorating. Between taking frosting shots and eating most of our candy decorations, we practiced what we are going to ask Santa for and work away on our gingerbread dream houses. Every year we buy a table with proceeds benefitting the hospital’s prosthetics department. I love when giving back is festive and fun.
When the houses were "pink" enough and the gingerbread men were dressed, we licked our fingers clean and went to go have a word with Mr. Claus. Batman toys, a Barbie house with a working TV, a unicorn, and some "bad guy" action figures were whispered excitedly into his ear. I have a feeling these kids were on the nice list this year and might get a wish or two, after all they are so sweet they deserve it. With bellies full, we waddled to the car to all head home for a winter's nap and have visions of sugarplum fairies dance in our heads.
